On February 18, 2014, Asheville City Council & Duke Energy entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. This MOU (as they are affectionally known) says that Duke Energy will donate 48 acres of French Broad riverfront to the City of Asheville for a future greenway & more. This property will connect the north end of the French Broad River Park with the south end of the RiverWay Connecter Greenway (the part adjacent to the New Belgium Asheville Brewery). Timeline currently being discussed is planning this year with the hopes of construction starting in 2015.
